Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 25 Ben was ably assisted by Ross "Rossco" Davies, Mudgee Branch President, who is a man who has put in the time and effort to build SSAA Mudgee into a community, not just a club. The 2018 SSAA Big Game Rifl e National Championship almost didn't happen in NSW, and it was only by the work and commitment of the Windamere Regional Shooting Complex licence holder, Andrew Prowse, that it became possible for NSW to host this premiere SSAA event. We are all grateful for Andy's Herculean efforts. Our gratitude also goes to the shooters who committed the time, effort and money to attend and participate in the 2018 SSAA Big Game Rifl e National Championship. Participants came from Victoria, ACT and Queensland, and of course from NSW. Thank you to all of you who came and made all the work to prepare for the event worthwhile. UPCOMING SSAA NSW BGR STATE TITLES 29 & 30 SEPTEMBER 2018 The SSAA NSW Big Game Rifl e State Titles will this year be hosted by SSAA Griffi th Branch at their Rankins Springs Shooting Complex. On Saturday 29 September there will be three events offered; Pot Rifl e, Special Snap and Group One. Pot Rifl e can be shot with any centrefi re rifl e from .224" on up. So, whether you've got a .22 Hornet, .357 Magnum lever action, .243 or pretty much any sporting centrefi re rifl e you can compete in this match as long as it is in a sporting confi guration. For Special Snap and Group One the rifl e must be a sporting rifl e of .330" on up so a .338 Winchester Magnum for example would be fi ne. On Sunday 30 September the events offered will be Stalking Double Rifl e, Stopping Double Rifl e, Group Two and Light Nitro. The Light Nitro event is another one that many people will have a suitable rifl e for. It is open to any sporting rifl e of .228" and above. To compete in any Big Game Rifl e match all rifl es must be in a sporting confi guration, meeting the calibre and energy criteria of both the Group and Event which you intend to enter. They are rifl es which would ordinarily be used for the harvesting of Big Game and are 'in the Spirit of the Event'. If you would like to try Big Game Rifl e, the upcoming SSAA NSW State Titles at Rankins Springs presents a great opportunity. Please refer to the Events Calendar on page 31 for more details. Big Game Rifl e does not need to be prohibitively expensive. Here Andy Prowse uses a Baikal double rifl e in 9.3x74R. With this inexpensive rifl e Andy was able to compete in three core events; Special Snap, Group One, and Stalking Double Rifl e.
