18 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Attendance Reminder FAQs Members using their SSAA membership to satisfy their genuine reason are required to complete mandatory attendances. This is a legal requirement for firearms licence holders set out in the Firearms Regulation 2017. It's not a SSAA requirement. However, SSAA NSW is required by law to report those members who don't complete their required attendances to the NSW Firearms Registry. Q: When do I need to complete my attendances? A: SSAA NSW's attendance year has been assigned by the NSW Firearms Registry as the 12-month period between 1 April 2018 and 31 March 2019. You need to fulfil your attendance requirements during this 12-month period. Q: Where can I complete my attendances? A: Your attendance requirements can be fulfilled at any NSW Firearms Registry approved range. When you attend a SSAA range to complete attendance requirements, a SSAA NSW Attendance Book or electronic recording system will be made available at the range to record your attendance. For those completing the Attendance Books, it's important to complete the attendance receipt clearly and correctly; if a membership number is incorrect or absent the attendance won't be recorded. Wherever an attendance is completed, it's important you always retain your attendance receipts as proof of attendance. Q: I have target shooting, hunting and collecting on my licence, how many attendances am I required to complete? A: You need to register 4 attendances for target shooting, 2 for hunting and 1 for collecting each reporting year when you use SSAA membership to support the genuine reasons for your firearms licence. Attendances are not transferrable between activities and cannot be carried over between reporting years. Q: Do I need to specify what type of attendance: target, hunting or collecting? A: Yes, members need to specify the type of activity they have completed during their attendance. This can be done by marking a T for target, H for hunting and C for collecting on the attendance receipt. If no activity is specified, the attendance will automatically be recorded as a target shooting attendance. Some SSAA NSW ranges may have an electronic recording system for attendances and in this case, members need to let the person processing the transaction know what type of attendance they are completing so it can be recorded correctly. Q: I have completed my attendances at another approved club, do I need to notify SSAA NSW? A: If you have registered SSAA as your reporting club with the NSW Firearms Registry, then yes. If you complete an attendance at a non-SSAA range, you must forward a copy of the attendance receipt or a letter from the club stating you've attended to the SSAA NSW Office. This attendance can then be included in your attendance count. Q: I'm a member of another club approved for target shooting, hunting and/or collecting and it reports on my attendances, what do I do? A: Please notify us in writing that another approved club reports on your longarms attendances, noting which of your genuine reasons (target shooting, hunting or collecting) it reports on. We'll adjust your membership record and cease reporting on those genuine reasons indicated in your correspondence. In early January, the SSAA NSW Office will send out a courtesy letter to remind members of their obligations and that you have until 31 March 2019 to complete your attendances.
