More meetings are being finalised and I look forward to updating you throughout the year as to their success. To date the feedback has been generally positive towards SSAA NSW. We have a lot of work to do in this area and that will be continuously ongoing. Make no mistake, whether it be seeking sensible, safety focused and evidence based law reform for LAFO's or funding for our various ranges and activities across all our disciplines, I will be a fierce advocate and like the NSW Board keen to work with those who want to work with us. Work with all shooting community stakeholders to develop a common voice It is important, more than ever, that all shooting organisations work together to better support the entire shooting community. I am focussed alongside with our NSW Board that regardless of whether SSAA NSW affiliated or not we work with all shooting organisations to develop a common voice so as to better promote our sport to the public and engage in the political process more effectively. If all law abiding shooting organisations are strong then we are all strong! And of course have fun along the way! NSW State Election - March 23, 2019 The election result could go right down to the wire with the likely outcome in the Lower House too close to call. The Upper House result looks more certain in that not one political party will control the Upper House and the likely scenario is that the balance of power will be made up of Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party coupled with either or both One Nation and the Liberal Democrats. Our engagement plan covers all political parties but it is important to understand the likely outcome of the election. By doing so it makes it easier to make informed decisions and measure promises made to actual deliverables. Seeking funding is an easier process compared to legislative reform which in some cases can take years to achieve (I will outline the process on how a law is passed in the future). It is important to work with the Parliament and its various parties over a long period of time. The composition of the Upper House will be important to LAFO's either for good or the worse depending on the results. In deciding who to vote for, it is important to speak with all the candidates and talk to them about the issues and values that are important to you. Sometimes laws in the shooting space are not evidenced based and not focused on safety. These restrictions are usually knee-jerked and impact on LAFO's as opposed to criminals where we can all agree need to be targeted. It is important to engage the candidates before the election as it could be too late after. SSAA NSW are working hard to promote your interests and engaging within the political process but we all have a part to play. Branch/Range and Membership tour Immediately after starting in the role, I have commenced a tour of all our Branches and various ranges listening to what is important to you whilst at the same time giving Branches an update on SSAA NSW activities and providing an opportunity for members to ask questions. Already the visits to Branches both large and small have been invaluable to myself allowing me to understand your local Branch, follow up on issues and gaining important insight and suggestions to increase our services to you. Please like our Facebook page There is only so much information that can go into a magazine. To keep updated on the work undertaken by your Association to support you, I ask that you like our SSAA NSW facebook page. I thank you for your warm welcome and I look forward to seeing you out at the range or in the field! Jai Rowell CEO and Executive Director - SSAA (NSW) Inc.
