8 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Inaugural SSAA WGAA NSW Working Gundog Retrieving Trial The Advanced Stake was a hard fought competition with the overall best performance going to Jack Lynch and his Yellow Labrador "Bella" with a Second Place on Saturday and First Place on Sunday, the creditable type of performance that we have grown to expect from this team. The Intermediate Stake saw a variety of breeds competing with Sam Haigh's English Springer Spaniel "Quinn" and Peter Betteridge's Labrador "Flash" winning on consecutive days. The retrieving trial section of the Working Gundog Discipline in NSW had an impressive start with a very successful retrieving trial in the Bendemeer area over the weekend of 29 and 30 September. The trialling property, although very dry, furnished us with good challenging areas to fully test our dogs over land and water runs. Quite a variety of dog breeds and handlers of different experience levels lined up to work their dogs in situations that simulate what can be encountered in duck hunting and rough field shooting. The judges used considerable skill in setting their runs so as to evaluate each dogs performance while giving each competing team the opportunity to showcase their training and natural talents. Over the weekend the Open Stake, our highest competition level, was dominated by Bryan Pritchard and his Black Labrador "Gunner" as they completed a total of fifteen retrieves in excellent style.
