12 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. SSAA Hay Branch 5-Stand State Title Shoot Echuca based Hay member, Mick Keirl took out High Gun with a very impressive 191 out of 200 across the 2-day shoot. Equally as impressive was the promise shown by our junior shooters who continue to improve with each passing shoot. Our junior members have benefited immensely from the SSAA Junior Development Program, with our junior shooter Benjamin Caughey shooting a 24 in his third round for the weekend. The Hay Branch of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) was proud to host the NSW 5-Stand State Titles across the weekend of 16th and 17th March. This shoot was the culmination of a number of selection shoots that had been shot across NSW in the past 12 months to decide the NSW State Champion, as well as select a team of shooters to represent NSW at the National 5-Stand competition later this year. The competition for State Champion and NSW team positions has been tight all year with a number of shooters from Hay, Griffith and other regional areas all fighting for top spot. The NSW State Titles attracted shooters from as far as Sydney and Ulladulla, as well as the closer regional areas. But at the end of a long year of competitive shooting across the state it was two local shooters, Peter Jacka and Darren Macartney who ended up shooting for the title of NSW State Champion. Ultimately the championship came down to the final day of the shoot with Darren Macartney just edging out Peter Jacka by only a few targets to take the title of NSW State Champion (his 6th State Champion title).
