Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 3 Importantly, a Strategic Plan is the test against which all Board decisions are made, meaning the above four points must be met in any decision making. Communication Jai, as CEO, now writes to the member email database regularly with a news update. This is about 40,000 members, including committees and associated entities being kept in the loop. We also produce more formal reports for the NSW shooter quarterly which you are reading now, and of course our monthly memos to committees around important issues and procedures for SSAA NSW continues. Facebook is another opportunity to see what SSAA NSW is doing. I encourage you to like our page. To really cement the best possible communication for our Branches we are now committing to Microsoft Office 365 for as many Branches that can make use of it. There are huge benefits in this product for our communication and our Branch record keeping. One important statistic I presented at the AGM was the number of members between 26 – 65 years of age. There are more members in the 26-30 category than in any category over 60 years of age. If Branch leaderships don't want to embrace this technology because of internet capability or their personal management models, then consider getting a Branch member on to your committee as a communications officer, who has good internet connection and who works in an environment where this technology is commonplace. The information you will have access to will be well worth it. We have been running Microsoft Office 365 for some time now and this has allowed the Board to improve their performance and response time for decisions significantly. Instead of quarterly Board meetings we now meet monthly via Microsoft Office 365 video conferencing. This will mean that minutes of Board meetings will be sent to Branches in a more timely fashion. Training Research highlighted that trained shooters are more palatable to the non firearms owning community. On top of this outcome different organisations like Firearms Registry and other Government agencies are looking for professional training around firearms. Further effective use of training accreditation will assist significantly in securing hunting opportunities for the 80% of our members who claim hunting as a primary reason to belong to SSAA NSW. We have registered "Industry Training Specialists Pty Ltd" as our Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This RTO is wholly owned by SSAA NSW. Research Outcomes Our research has produced so much more than raw data. It has assisted in: • Strategic plan development. • CEO employment. • External stakeholders engagement. • Direction of the Board – communication and sharing with all shooting organisations and outward focus of the organisation. • Management of crisis events. • Better understanding of what Members and the public want. • 5000 unfiltered responses from members about what they want across a range of topics. • We know so much more about our Organisation. • $3M benefit already. We used the research to plan the grant of $3 million for a range facility that services Member needs. Below is a slide from the AGM report about why we belong to SSAA NSW. You will see that the priorities listed are being actioned. Even the employment of a new CEO is based very much on these member requirements. Stay safe, promote the benefits of SSAA NSW, and run some try shooting events. The research indicates that 50% of people asked will participate, then all you have to do is assist them to fill in the application to join. Lance Miller President - SSAA (NSW) Inc.
