Try Shooting in Goulburn One of the best ways that SSAA NSW can encourage new people to try the safe, fun and unique range of shooting sports is by letting them try it for themselves. That's what SSAA NSW Goulburn Branch did recently by hosting a 'Try Shooting Day' at their Range. SSAA NSW Goulburn Branch President Ken Kenchington and his team opened the Range on a gorgeous Saturday morning, inviting anyone who was interested to come and try for themselves. Within a few minutes of the Range gate opening a young couple stopped by having seen an advertisement in the local paper. The gentleman had long since given up his firearms, having lost interest in the sport due to the increasing amount of regulation involved and his partner had never fired a gun in her life, so this was a great opportunity to demonstrate what they were missing out on. The Range Safety Officers first gave a detailed introduction regarding the safe handling of firearms and demonstrated how these particular bolt action rifles worked, stopping to answer any questions the newcomers had. The same process was repeated many times throughout the day as more people visited to try shooting for themselves. Some had tried it before, others were complete newcomers, but the SSAA NSW Goulburn Branch volunteers made everyone feel welcome. Congratulations to Ken and his team in Goulburn for helping to spread the positive message about our great sport.
