40 Over the course of the weekend, a series of Side Events were also conducted, including Speed Pistol, Speed Rifle, Speed Shot Gun and Long Range Rifle. The speed events require competitors to hit six steel plate targets from six shots, with the quickest time winning. For the Long Range events, competitors shoot from a standing position, and have three attempts at each distance, before moving to the next target. If a competitor misses a target with their allotted three shots, they are eliminated from the competition. Categories include Lever Action Rifle (pistol calibre and rifle calibre), Martini Cadet Rifle, and Muzzle Loading Rifles. On the Sunday following the completion of the competition, a sausage-sizzle was provided for all, prior to the formal Presentation of Certificates for the winners of each Category, the Side Events, and the overall "Top Gun". The weather over the weekend was very favourable with sunny and mild conditions, although a little windy at times, which no doubt affected the accuracy of some competitors. However, everyone was just happy to be back at Mudgee and to catch up with friends after so many cancellations in the previous year. Let's hope that we can now manage COVID into the future and get back to a life that is much closer to normal. Colonial Action is generally shot on the fourth Sunday of each month at the Windamere Regional Shooting Complex, and there are three major weekend shoots per year in March (the State Titles), May and September.
