8 • appeared before a NSW parliamentary Upper House Inquiry advocating on behalf of Members and all legal firearms owners; • met with numerous Members of parliament, including Ministers and party leaders, government backbenchers, Opposition Members and Cross bench Members, regarding the unintended consequences of the Firearms and Weapons Legislation; • successfully obtained clarification from the government that the intended legislation will not target legal firearms owners; • successfully advocated for an ongoing Firearms Amnesty across NSW with no expiry; • successfully obtained mandatory attendance relief for legal firearms owners during the COVID-19 pandemic; • lodged a submission on the Explosives Regulation 2021 in collaboration with Members, ensuring that legal firearms owners would not be unfairly impacted with regards to storing propellant powder; • successfully obtained a commitment that the new regulations will no longer attempt to reduce the amount of powder allowed by each licence holder from the current position; • lodged a submission on the Animal Welfare Reform 2021 in collaboration with Members, ensuring that hunters would not be unfairly impacted by changes; • worked with key stakeholders including the fishing community to ensure an ePetition has been supported which in just a short period has already achieved over 18,000 signatures; • lodged a submission on the NSW Environment Protection Authority's Noise Guide, ensuring that shooting ranges would not be unfairly impacted by noise restrictions; and • obtained a written commitment from the NSW Government that a new highly negative definition contained in the regulations will not be implemented which could have had negative consequences for range development. Because of our advocacy efforts, SSAA NSW is now regularly invited by government and other authorities to provide submissions and advice on a wide variety of reviews. As a SSAA NSW member, you are actively contributing to furthering the future of the shooting sports. We are proud of our community and our partnerships with other stakeholders and industry bodies in achieving the best possible outcomes for all legal firearms owners. We are certainly stronger together. Continuing open communication with our Members and fostering relationships with all industry bodies is a priority in ensuring the enduring legacy of our sport.
