World Champ In April this year, SSAA NSW brought you a story about Sam Medway who was off to the Single Action World Titles in Albuquerque, New Mexico. You might remember that Sam has numerous titles to his name – not to mention a couple of World Records. Well now Savage Sam (as he is known) has a new title to add to his impressive list of accomplishments. WORLD CHAMPION Sam recently became the first non-American shooter in 32 years of competition to claim the top overall prize. Sam Medway "I've had a few offers to go over there [America] – I will have to think seriously about it," Sam said. The most disappointing aspect of Sam's incredible feat, is the lack of recognition he has received in Australia. The winner's Belt Buckle "It's difficult to put into words," Sam said. "I suppose all the hard work and training has paid off." "Unfortunately the shooting sports in Australia are not widely accepted. If people were to see how much dedication and training goes into all shooting disciplines at this level, maybe it would be taken more seriously." Not only did Sam have to content with the heat which comes with a New Mexican Summer. He was also up against some of the World's best, in many cases professional shooters. "You just try and shut the situation out and rely on the practice that you've put in before the competition. Once that first shot is fired, all the hard work and training comes into play and you do what you're there for." Although not widely recognised in Australia, the sport of Single Action shooting is one of the fastest growing shooting disciplines around the World and the World Titles attract shooters from around the World. Beating the best of the best is sure to open some doors for Sam. Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc.
