From Diana's Desk SSAA NSW Member Survey One of the great things about SSAA NSW is that our members represent such a large and diverse cross section of our society. But that can also pose a challenge for us to know what our members want out of their Association. With more than 50,000 members in 49 Branches throughout the State, it's important that we are able to find out more about our members and what the important issues are, so we can make sure we're moving forward in the right direction. Recently you would have received the SSAA NSW Membership Survey and reply paid envelope enclosed with your Australian Shooter magazine. This is a really important survey because it gives us an opportunity to find out more about you, our members. The survey will take no more than 10 minutes to compete and if you prefer you can do it online by clicking the link below. All members who complete the survey will go into the draw to be one of 10 SSAA members who will have their membership paid for the following year. We encourage all members to take this opportunity to help shape SSAA NSW not just for today, but into the future. Have your say to help us build an even stronger SSAA NSW. 50,000 Members Last year SSAA NSW announced that we had set two ambitious membership targets. The first was to reach 50,000 members by the end of 2013 and the second was to reach 60,000 members in 2014. I'm happy to say that we have already reached that first target having recorded our 50,000th member in September – more than three months ahead of schedule! Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. You'll find a story on our 50,000th (and 50,001st) member in this edition of the NSW Shooter. Everyone at SSAA NSW is excited that we've reached this milestone, but there's a lot more work to do if we are going to reach 60,000 by the end of 2014. MP Visits Recently SSAA NSW wrote to all 93 members of the NSW Legislative Assembly to discuss the suspension of hunting on public lands as well as the upcoming review of the NSW Firearms Registry. Since the letter went out we have been contacted by several MPs who requested to meet with SSAA NSW to discuss our concerns. We've certainly taken this opportunity to outline SSAA NSW and speak about these and other important issues with a number of these MPs including the NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson. We look forward to more meetings which are scheduled over the next month. We also encourage members to make contact with their local Members of Parliament to discuss how these issues affect you and your family. You can find more information, as well as the contact details for your local MP at the SSAA NSW Action Centre which can be found on the SSAA NSW website. Diana Melham Executive Director - SSAA (NSW) Inc. Penrith Gun Show Due to circumstances beyond our control, and despite attempts by SSAA NSW to negotiate its continued availability at the Show, the SSAA NSW Mobile Air Rifle Range will no longer appear at the Penrith Gun Show. Following approval from NSW Firearms Registry, the Mobile Range has appeared at the Show throughout 2012 and 2013 to provide access for members to complete 'Target Shooting' attendances following the closure of ANZAC Range. Members who previously visited the Show to complete a 'Target Shooting' attendance at the Mobile Range will now be required to attend another approved range to complete their attendances. 3
