Trans Tasman Competition NSW shotgunners featured prominently in the two SSAA Australian Shotgun Teams that competed successfully at the recent New Zealand and North Island COMPAK Championships on 8/9/10 November. Held at Dargaville, north of Auckland on the north island, 120 of the best sporting clay shooters from NZ, Australia, Britain and several south pacific countries contested the 300 targets over four separate layouts. COMPAK is the FITASC version of 5-Stand and is shot in squads of six shooters. The host club set up the layouts on a nearby farm with two over dams, one in a gully and the fourth in an open area to give an excellent variety of challenging simulated field targets. The weather was cloudy and overcast with cold winds and with variable visibility. SSAA sponsored an Open Team of Grant Barton (Bathurst), Darren Macartney (Hay), Shaun Krzus (Griffith), Jamie Cirillo (Griffith) and Matt Webster (ACT) while the Graded Team comprised Peter Jacka (Hay), Mitchell McDonnell (West Wyalong), Troy Adams (Griffith), Jan Jacka (Hay) & Warren Brown (Griffith). The teams were accompanied by other SSAA competitors and their families. The 100 target North Island Championship was held first with Grant Barton posting the winning score of 95/100 to claim the High Gun. Grant faced some stiff opposition from British world champion Mark Vassey, who finished with a 94 as well as many of the top NZ competitors who scored into the 90s. Darren Macartney posted a very credible 92, Matt Webster a 91 and Jan Jacka won a second in the Ladies category. For the NZ Championships the targets were altered Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 10
