Stephen Pope On the sunny weekend of the 29 and 30 of March 2014, the SSAA NSW Dubbo Branch held their fi rst ever Lie Detector Shoot at the Fashions Mount Range at Wellington NSW. The Dubbo Branch boasts more proud hunters than target shooters, and when local shooters and members begin to make claims that they can shoot a fox at 400m what else is there to do but create a competition to test them on their truthfulness. Participants from Dubbo, Armidale, Tenterfi eld, Goulburn, Sydney and from the NSW State Parliament were invited to try their hand at shooting fox head targets at 200m, 300m and 400m out of car doors, in a similar fashion to spot lighting. On day one the competition started simply, everyone was to show their skill with rim-fi re rifl es, shooting the fox head target at 25m, 50m and 75m, not surprisingly everyone did reasonably well in this event. Once this event closed it was time to begin the center-fi re rifl e round, the real "Lie Detector" Shoot. Scores started to vary from person to person and every time they moved further away a new top shot would emerge. At the end of day one there were a lot of excuses around the camp fi re from both members and other entrants as to why their shooting was so different from their allegations, which eventually died off to be replaced by planning in the hope of doing better on the Sunday.
