Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 6 Legal Matters After submitting an Internal Review Request to the Registry, if unsuccessful, you were able to file a Notice of Review to the Administrative Decisions Tribunal for an independent determination of the decision of the Registry. As of 1 January 2014, the Administrative Decisions Tribunal no longer existed. Many Tribunals within New South Wales were incorporated into one "Super Tribunal" as described by the Government and in the Media, being the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal, otherwise referred to as the NCAT. The introduction of the NCAT has not changed the initial process to seek an Internal Review from the Firearms Registry. Upon an unsuccessful Internal Review, a Notice of Appeal is now filed within the Administrative and Equal Opportunity Division of the NCAT. The time limits for filing of both Internal Review requests and Notices of Appeal has not changed and remains at 28 days. Once the Notice of Appeal is filed, the process remains the same as it was before the former Administrative Decisions Tribunal. The matter is listed for a Directions Hearing where the Tribunal sets a timetable for the parties to file and serve all relevant documents they are relying upon in their respective cases. Usually at the same Directions Hearing the Tribunal will list the matter to a future date after the filing and service of documents by each party for a hearing. So, the abolishment of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal and the implementation of the New South Wales Civil & Administrative Tribunal still provides licences holders and applicants for licenses a system of review against decisions adverse to them made by the Firearms Registry.
