Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 7 Hunting The Menu: More Than A Show, It's A Movement For Change Hunting the Menu is a television program where hunter/gatherer meets gourmet chef. It's not a cooking show and it's not a fi shing show. In Hunting the Menu, everything that's caught is cooked and everything that's cooked is caught. And yes, it's a bit edgy and a bit thought provoking, it is cutting edge, factual television that pushes the boundaries and challenges viewers to think about the food they eat and inspire change in favor of sustainable consumption. Hunting the Menu aims to show how everyday meals can be delivered to the table by getting back to basics and using a few simple ingredients thoughtfully sourced from our land and waters. In Hunting the Menu the creator Corey Wilson combines his 30 years' experience in the television industry with a passion for sustainable living weaving them into a captivating program that delivers a great yarn set against the backdrop of our magnifi cent Australian landscape. The show brings to life the simple act of hunting for food. Our ancestral diet, Corey says, is being lost to convenience foods and perhaps even a little too much political correctness. For Corey, food is not about competition, celebrity or diets but rather reconnecting with our primal instincts. His new venture, Hunting the Menu is a very visual expression of that passion. "Not so long ago catching a few feral rabbits or a deer was a way of extending the contents of the family larder," Corey says. "My dad regularly told us stories of hunting feral rabbits that provided a cheap food source for the Wilson brood while at the same time he and his brothers sold the pelts for pocket money. There was very little waste." "Fast forward to today and Australian households now throw out almost three million tonnes of food each year. This is a waste of money, energy and resources - not to mention the impact on landfi ll!" Always with the welfare of the animal fi rst and foremost, Hunting the Menu will show viewers which animals to take and how to take them, where to take them from and which ones to leave behind, it has been fi lmed and produced according to the highest possible production standards - beautifully shot, free from advertorial with broad appeal. "Catching a fi sh or chasing a feral goat is great exercise and the health benefi ts of wild, lean and unprocessed meats are well known. Yet many people are still confronted by the idea of taking down a feral animal for meat." "Taking an animal in its own environment, instantly, while grazing and with no stress or anticipation is in stark contrast to the way that most of the animals we consume meet their end." "We're not advocating that people can or do replace the supermarket loyalty card with a rifl e and a fi shing rod. However, Hunting the Menu does aim to show how, with a bit of planning, we can all incorporate a little 'hunter/gatherer' into our everyday consumption."
