Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 5 From Diana's Desk Our sport is growing and it needs you… It has been a big year for SSAA NSW and sporting shooters around the state. As Paul has mentioned, we have some new ranges and facilities being developed for 2015 and the future. It's an exciting time to be a SSAA NSW member and with this positive growth in our sport there is a lot of work and responsibly on the shoulders of our Branches and our many volunteers. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and effort just to run a Branch and add that to all of the work that goes into running a range that our members enjoy, and the workload is significant. Throughout the past couple of years I have travelled around NSW and visited quite a few Branches and their ranges to see firsthand the result of the volunteer work done by so many Branch Committee members to provide these services for our members. Our last membership survey indicated that 90% of our members visit ranges but only 18% of them are involved with their Branch in any way at all and we're hoping to get that number to increase. For a Branch to function and grow its range and activities, it needs volunteers to fill the many and varied roles. If we want the future of our sport to be secure we need more members to volunteer, it's not fair for all of us to rely on the same faces who often work tirelessly for years. As well as lightening the load, new people can have new ideas and this can also help broaden the opportunities and activities offered to members. So if you're one of the many members that enjoy visiting your local range but haven't yet had the chance to assist your Branch Committee, your moment is now. No matter how much time you can spare, whether it be 10 minutes or 10 hours, I'm sure your Branch Committee will welcome you with open arms. You can help out as a Range Officer, people with administration skills can assist the Committee, if you're more hands on you can help out with range maintenance whenever possible or if you know your stuff and love introducing people to our sport perhaps becoming a Safe Shooting Instructor may be of interest. We really need you to help support the continued growth of our sport – so come on, lend a hand in 2015! Merry Christmas… I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the past 12 months and also wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
