Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 3 From Diana's Desk Why not try something new… SSAA NSW provides an opportunity for members to participate in a number of shooting disciplines offering numerous competitions which are run regularly by Branches and Affiliate Clubs around the state. As you would have seen in the NSW Shooter we feature articles on different events which showcase the variety available to those of us involved in the shooting sports. It's not all about who claims first place and the greatest thing about our sport is the challenge it provides for anyone who goes along to a range and has a shot. It's always exciting when you hit the centre of the target or get that almost perfect grouping on your target and there's also that great sense of achievement when you improve your personal best. To a lot of members, it's the comradery and friendship that keeps them coming back. That's one of the unique things about the shooting sports, shooters are always happy to help newcomers and enjoy sharing their skills and knowledge. This competition side of our Association really showcases our sport. There are events and competitions held around NSW every week and they cater for a variety of disciplines, firearms and levels. In this edition of the NSW Shooter we've included stories on different events. The SSAA NSW Lever Action State Titles were recently held in Coonabarabran; SSAA NSW 5-Stand State Titles saw a father and daughter both win this shotgun event; and a Mother's Day Try Shooting Night held by SSAA NSW Sydney Branch which introduced dozens of new people to benchrest shooting. The shooting sports are unique in their inclusiveness; no matter what your ability or what types of firearms you're interested in, there is a match to suit just about everyone. The variety and diversity of all shooting activities offered by SSAA NSW, whether it be target shooting, hunting and collecting also makes our sport and our Association unique. Shooting is a perfect family sport which can involve everyone over the age of 12; children, parents and grandparents all competing together. State wide competitions provide a chance for all shooters and families to head off on a road trip and take part in a competition somewhere in the country. Local shoots mean you can enjoy some healthy competition with family and friends and improve your skills on a regular basis. In each edition of the NSW Shooter (page 11 this month) we list upcoming SSAA NSW and National events and competitions. We also regularly post details of these on our website and Facebook page. If you'd like to find out more about the large variety of SSAA Disciplines visit our website - www.ssaansw.org.au. So, I really encourage all members to keep an eye out for future events and competitions and consider trying something different, who knows you may end up discovering a new talent.
