Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 6 SSAA NSW Lever Action State Titles First ever offi cial SSAA shoot held on new range in Coonabarabran The 2015 SSAA NSW Lever Action State Titles were held on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May and were the fi rst SSAA offi cial match at the Box Ridge Range in Coonabarabran. Hosted by SSAA NSW Coonabarabran Branch, the Championship marked a signifi cant development as the Branch had only recently acquired the license to conduct certain matches. A total of 20 competitors attended including interstate competitors from Albany, Western Australia, Townsville and Bowen in Queensland along with NSW shooters from Southern Highlands, Taree Wingham, Coffs Harbour, Merriwa, Coonabarabran and Northern Rivers Branches. The Titles started on Saturday with the 50-shot 'open' lever action, where a lever action rifl e of any calibre and full-bore type sights can be used. Sunday was the 35-shot 'classic' calibre match, where the rifl e must be a conventional lever action design fi ring a pre-1939 released cartridge, so using a post and vee sight set up. Picton shooter Jim Buckley became the inaugural winner of three perpetual trophies, winning the Open and Classic Calibre matches to be crowned the Two-Gun Champion. He fi nished ahead of National Champion Steve Hurley from Albany with Don Chesworth of Northern Rivers Branch taking third place. Junior shooter Jarrod Moody demonstrated real lever action skill and shot well ahead of his years to win the C Grade Title gold and the Junior Title. In the ladies competition, former National Champion Julie Chesworth of Northern Rivers Branch was too dominant and fi nished ahead of Robyn Barrington from Coonabarabran and Jo Guinea from Townsville. A special thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors and donations and particularly to the Davies family of Box Ridge for the licence agreement to use the range. This shoot and future events would not be possible without all your help. Competitors readying for rapid fi re Kevin Barrington (L) presenting perpetual trophies to Jim Buckley (R)
