Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 3 From Diana's Desk Volunteers – we need you... It's an exciting time to be a SSAA NSW member and a sporting shooter with the positive growth our sport continues to experience. However, this positive growth means there is a lot of work and responsibility on the shoulders of our Branches and our many volunteers. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and effort just to run a Branch and add to that all of the work that goes into running a range that our members enjoy, and the workload is significant. Throughout the past few years I have travelled around NSW and visited quite a few Branches and their ranges to see firsthand the result of the volunteer work done by so many Branch Committee members to provide these services to our members. As I've said on a number of occasions, the results of our membership survey indicated that 90% of our members visit ranges but only 18% of them are involved with their Branch in any way at all and we really need to get that participation rate increased. For a Branch to function and grow its range and activities, it needs volunteers to fill the many and varied roles. If we want the future of our sport to be secure we need more members to volunteer, it's not fair for all of us to rely on the same faces who often work tirelessly for years. As well as lightening the load, new people can have new ideas and this can also help broaden the opportunities and activities offered to members. So if you're one of the many members that enjoy visiting your local range but haven't yet had the chance to assist your Branch, your chance has arrived. No matter how much time you can spare, whether it be 10 minutes or 10 hours, I'm sure your Branch Committee will be very happy to hear from you. You can help out as a Range Officer, people with administration skills can assist the Committee, if you're more hands on you can help out with range maintenance whenever possible or if you know your stuff and enjoy introducing new people to our sport perhaps becoming a Safe Shooting Instructor may suit you. We really need more help from our members to continue to service and grow our sport, so please lend a hand! Diana Melham Executive Director - SSAA (NSW) Inc.
