Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 7 Charity Try Shooting Day 'Try shooting' fundraiser raises $14,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation More than 140 women, men and juniors 'united in pink' to help raise funds for NBCF at the Charity Try Shooting Day hosted by Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc 'SSAA NSW' and St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre 'SMISC' on Sunday 19 April. "The Charity Try Shooting Day was a huge success, raising more than $14,000," said Diana Melham, SSAA NSW Executive Director. "We ran the day as a family event and had people of all ages show up. They had turns fi ring handguns and rifl es throughout the day under the direct supervision of our skilled instructors. Most had never used fi rearms before and it was great to see everyone walk away with a big smile on their face." Activities on the day included a BBQ lunch, raffl es and a silent auction. The newly built SSAA NSW Mobile Air Rifl e Range had its fi rst outing and proved very popular. The purpose built caravan converts to a 10m air rifl e range, giving people the chance to try their skill at this popular event. "So many people made the day possible. Fifty enthusiastic volunteers showed up to give one-on-one instruction to the beginners. Safari Firearms generously donated a hot pink Savage Mark II .22 rifl e with scope for the silent auction. By hosting the event, SSAA NSW and SMISC allowed everything raised to be donated to the cause," added Diana. "I want to thank and congratulate everyone who attended and united in the power of pink. SSAA NSW together with SMISC set a target of $11,000 to be raised and we well and truly superseded that." Local businesses, staff and customers of the SMISC rallied together and donated more than $3,000 worth of prizes for the raffl e. Winchester and Nioa kindly provided ammunition for the day and Bob the Butcher generously donated sausages and onions for the BBQ. "The feedback was very positive, they particularly appreciated the one-on-one guidance and supervision with our friendly and smiling volunteer Range Offi cers who were fantastic representatives of the sport of shooting," Ms Melham said.
