Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 19 Lever Fever @ Action-Packed Championships The October long weekend carried competitors from all over Australia to the SSAA NSW Northern Rivers Branch in Casino NSW for three exceptional and testing days of shooting for the 2016 SSAA National Lever Action Championship. Friday practice tested the strength of the fl ags as strong winds refused to yield, continuing into the Rimfi re event on Saturday and presenting challenging conditions for the shoot. Queenslander and National Lever Action Discipline Chairman Darren Moy edged out National Lever Action Award Secretary Don Chesworth for the title by 6.4 points with Steve Hurley from WA taking the bronze. On Sunday, the weather had changed to bring a few clouds, the breeze had stopped and the temperature on the range began to climb. Competitors took to the line for the Centrefi re title which saw the WA contingent seize all three places on the podium with Steve Hurley taking gold, Brett Worner silver and Mick McDonnell bronze with Don Chesworth snipping closely at their heels. Monday came with overcast skies for the Classic Calibre and State teams events. A mix of light and heavy showers throughout the day tested the offi cials and target crew's ingenuity in securing targets between showers, however Steve Hurley prevailed by 3 points to take gold over Peter Cohen from QLD, with Jim Buckley from NSW only fi ve points behind for the bronze. The teams event went to WA, with QLD only just edging NSW out for the silver by 2 points, followed by ACT and Tasmania. Steve Hurley took out the Two Gun championship, with Don Chesworth claiming silver and Brett Worner putting in a solid effort to take bronze. Steve took gold again for the Three Gun over Don Chesworth with Jim Buckley for bronze. Ladies competitors featured strongly again this year, with Renee Parker taking the ladies Rimfi re championship on home turf from Sue Knapp while Julie Chesworth took the bronze. Centrefi re went to Sue Knapp with Gwen Murrell silver and Julie Chesworth again claiming the bronze and the Classic Calibre was taken out by Julie Chesworth, with Sue Knapp for silver and Renee Parker for Bronze. Both the Two and Three Gun Ladies went to Sue Knapp, Julie Chesworth for Silver and Renee Parker for Bronze. Junior competitors were also well represented with Jarrod Moody taking out Junior Champion for all events over Nicholas McClaren and Aden Moy, while new shooter Tarshya Moore claimed all events in the under 15 competitions. Congratulations to all the juniors on your fi rst (and hopefully many) National Championships! If your branch holds Lever Action Discipline shoots, please consider contacting the Discipline Chairman to discuss opportunities to host an event. Take note and encourage your shooters to travel to title matches too as they're a great way to learn new information and meet new, like-minded people from all over the country who share your sport. Ladies National Classic Calibre Champion Julie Chesworth (NSW) with Darren Moy and Scott Wagner NSW Northern Rivers Branch Team Overall Ladies Champion Sue Knapp (W.A.)
