14 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. SSAA NSW Branches and Affiliate Clubs are eligible to apply for annual Development Grants which are designed to assist with the provision of facilities and/or services to SSAA members at the local level. This additional funding is provided by SSAA NSW and is intended for projects of a capital works nature associated with range development and improvement. Each year SSAA NSW allocates a pool of funds specifically for Development Grants. Branches can apply for funding up to an amount of $15,000 and Affiliate Clubs $3,000 per year. When considering an application for a Development Grant, the SSAA NSW Finance Committee will assess alignment with the grant criteria, overall funds available and also take into account: • evidence of the likely success of the project, • any previous funding received by the Branch or Affiliate Club and evidence that this was utilised as approved, • the degree of initiative displayed by the Branch or Affiliate Club, • length and security of tenure of land the range facility is located on, and • the willingness of the Branch or Affiliate Club to raise funds from external sources and to contribute their own funds to the project. Over the past eight years SSAA NSW has provided $564,000 to Branches and Affiliate Clubs through Development Grants. Projects for which funding was granted include: • Covering and upgrading firing lines, • Grading and leveling of range to construct a metallic silhouette range, • Grading of access roads, • Upgrading stop butts to meet minimum Firearms Registry standards, • Replacement of range sidewalls, • Installation of ground, eyebrow and overhead baffles, • Purchase of portable toilets and installation of permanent amenities blocks, • Installation of solar systems with battery storage, • Metallic silhouette targets, • Shotgun traps, • Purchase of shipping containers for storage, and • Improvements to clubhouses including kitchen installations. Branch and Affiliate Club Committees are encouraged to apply for Development Grants to improve their facilities. Over the past eight years, the total amount of funding applied for, and granted, has not exhausted the pool allocated for the year. Applications close on 31 July 2017 for this year's round and further information is provided in the 2017 Funding Policies provided to Branches and Affiliate Clubs. Committee members can also contact Irena at the SSAA NSW office by email to admin@nsw.ssaa.org.au or by telephone on 8889 0400 if they have any questions.
