Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 11 The Firearms Registry over the past several years has been subject to reviews to determine the future direction of its IT Environment. The recommendations from the reviews included: • Develop a new platform that will improve interactions and information exchanges with our customers - all our licenses, businesses, clubs, ranges and dealers. • Develop a solution that provides real time data exchange between dealers, clubs and the Firearms Registry. • Replace the current system with a new online system. The Firearms Registry is aware of the challenges experienced by our customers, some of which can be directly related to the limitations that our current system presents. We know that we rely on heavily paper based centric processes which is dependent on surface mail, for the majority of our communications. The Firearms Registry is excited to announce that we are in the process of developing a new IT system which will address the above concerns. The new system when implemented will be capable of delivering the following functionality: • Online licence applications, • Online PTA's, • Ability to update and change personal details in real time, • Record and update safe storage locations and facilities, • Apply for permission to shoot unlicensed for try shoots and Firearm Safety Training submitted online, • The ability for the customer to nominate their preferred method of communication either via email, SMS or surface mail, and • Ability to update committee member details in real time. The Firearms Registry recognises that it is extremely important that our customers have the opportunity to provide valued feedback into the new system. To date we have been focusing on consulting with our stakeholders to ensure that we take into consideration our customers' requirements when developing the system. In May the Firearms Registry was invited to attend the SSAA AGM to introduce the conceptual design of the new system and to gain feedback that would be considered when designing the new system. Understanding that our business does cover the whole of NSW we organised a road trip visiting Newcastle, Sydney, Goulburn, and Dubbo inviting dealers, armourers and club officials to gain an understanding of the new direction and to explain how this can improve how we do business with our customers. Each event has been positive and we have taken away with us your concerns, ideas and wish lists to review and consider if it is feasible to be included in the new system. A FALCON Working Group has been established, who meet every second month and are providing input, ideas and assisting with the reviewing of support material for the system. The members of the Working Group are integral in supporting and assisting to ensure that the system is suited for the clubs business. SSAA NSW has representatives that are members of the Working Group and represent the needs of the clubs and members. It is important that if you have any questions or ideas please feed it up through your SSAA NSW representative. It is exciting times as we work towards developing the new system and we will be travelling back to the regional areas of NSW to invite you to become familiar with the system as we move closer to the implementation date. Keep an eye out for updates either from the Firearms Registry or SSAA NSW for dates when we will be in or near your area. Bruce Lyons Director, NSW Firearms Registry NSW Police Firearms Registry
