Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 13 'We are proud to introduce George Reid as the latest addition to the SSAA Insurance Brokers team.' Trevor Jenkin Ask George I have worked in the insurance industry for over four years and been a passionate shooter for more than fi ve so I am very glad to have a role which intersects shooting and risk management. I will be at St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre in Sydney every fi rst and third Tuesday of the month to discuss claims and any other insurance matters. Some SSAA NSW members may not be adequately insured for the activities that they are undertaking on their properties, so I am going to outline some facts that all shooters should know. In simple terms property insurance is broken into three categories: domestic and/or commercial property on a standard sized block, domestic and/or commercial property on acreage, or a farm. The activities undertaken on the property determine the insurance category. I will focus briefl y on farms and properties on acreage because in the event of an accident or calamity it is vitally important that you are covered under the correct category. If any type of farming activities – which could range from undertaking an agistment of sheep or horses to a small hobby vineyard, to a largescale commercial operation – occur on your property you need to be insured under Farm Package Insurance. Another easily overlooked matter is Property Owners Liability. All SSAA members undertaking recreational hunting activities are covered by $20,000,000 of Public Liability for property damage or personal injury caused to a third party due to the member's negligence while engaged in lawful recreational shooting anywhere in Australia. However, the property owner incurs a small degree of Property Owners Liability Insurance risk, in that should a shooting accident occur that is deemed to have been caused, in part or full, by negligence of maintenance of the property, the property owner may be liable. This is vitally important to members who invite third parties to their properties as most, if not all, Property Owners Liability does not extend to shooting risk. SSAA Insurance Brokers can offer a standalone liability policy which covers this. SSAA wants all our members, families and friends to be able to participate in the sport we love with complete peace of mind. If you have any questions give SSAA Insurance Brokers a call or come and see me at SMISC. I will also be attending the Annual General Meeting in May and look forward to meeting you.
