14 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Set in rolling pastoral countryside, the SSAA NSW Mudgee and Districts Branch at Windamere Regional Shooting Complex caters for a wide range of disciplines and comprises two major ranges as well as separate dedicated pistol, shotgun and metallic silhouette ranges. The 4,400 hectare complex was conceived in 1992 after site selection by the Branch. The range is located approximately 36km south of Mudgee and 21km from Rylstone in the Windamere Dam catchment on the Castlereagh Highway, opposite Lake Windamere and a short distance from the Windamere Tourist Park. Range 1 of the complex features a high calibre pistol- approved, 400m range and was opened to members in June 1995 and accommodates Big Game Rifle, Single Action, Pistol, Muzzle-loading shooters as well as a Rimfire Metallic Silhouette set-up. It is templated for both paper and steel targets, with permanent sighting plates at various distances available for those shooting lead projectiles and flexibility for the use of other Branch approved steel targets for jacketed projectiles. The 300m Range 2 serves Benchrest, Service Pistol and Service Rifle use, and opened in May 1996, along with a 500m Metallic Silhouette range set out for five distances. In 1999 the joint SSAA NSW Mudgee and Districts Branch and Mudgee Sporting Clays Shotgun Range was opened, making way for events featuring 5-Stand and Sporting Clays across an expansive array of targets. While providing facilities for nine different disciplines of target shooting and hosting state titles and national championships, the range also caters for regular club calendar events across Saturdays and Sundays. It is staffed by a full complement of dedicated volunteers, including Range Officers and Discipline Chairpersons. All major ranges feature kitchen facilities, toilets and safe handling areas and the complex also has dedicated areas for camping during multiple day events.
