Choose close weave clothes, gaiters, sock protectors or long pants to minimise weed seed capture. • Pick off seeds from shoes and clothes and check your gear to make sure seeds are not hiding in pockets or on Velcro straps. Carry seeds out in a zip-lock bag. • Care for your hunting companions, ensuring hunting dogs, ferrets etc are up-to-date with their vaccinations, are healthy and not at risk of spreading disease. Brush their coats to remove any weed seeds caught in their fur. Spotted anything unusual? If you see anything unusual in or on any animal (signs of disease) during your time hunting, report it immediately to the Disease Watch Hotline on 1800 675 888. All animals - domestic pets, livestock and vertebrate pests carry disease at some time. Some animal diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease have signifi cant socio-economic consequences, while others, zoonotic diseases such as Brucellosis, Q Fever and Leptospirosis can infect people making them very sick. Contact Local Land Services and the land manager if you see a pest, disease or unusual weed or large numbers of dead plants or wildlife while out hunting. Hunting clean takes commitment. But the risks are real. Ensure all vehicles, equipment, people and pets are clean when entering a property and clean when you leave, preventing any unwanted stowaways.
