16 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Field Days 2017 SSAA NSW attended four of the largest events on the State's agricultural and hunting calendars in 2017: HuntFest in Narooma, the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days, the Commonwealth Bank AgQuip Field Days in Gunnedah and the Sydney 4WD and Adventure Expo in Eastern Creek. With over 150,000 people attending the events across the state, it gave SSAA NSW the opportunity to interact with local communities and assist members and non- members alike. Invaluable expertise and advice was available around the Game Licensing Units General (G) and Restricted (R) Licences, hunting in state forests and on private land, SSAA Disciplines, how to obtain a licence, issues facing firearm owners in NSW, the changing environment around current and future potential legislation decisions and many other questions and concerns raised by our wide range of visitors. "Over 150 people completed their Safe Shooting and R-Licence Courses" A lot of new and existing members, as well as landowners, benefitted from the opportunity to speak face to face with representatives from SSAA Insurance Brokers in a relaxed environment about their needs and receive advice on various insurance matters. Many people took advantage of the convenience of being able to renew or take up membership at the events with 34% of members who joined opting for the SSAA Member exclusive firearms and fixed accessories insurance for just $25. On offer at all events was the SSAA NSW Safe Shooting Course and R-Licence Accreditations. Over 150 people took advantage of show special prices to take the next step in their shooting future. We are very grateful to all our volunteers who gave up their time to assist in the delivery of both courses. The fully licenced 10-metre Mobile Air Rifle Range made the trip to each show, and with numbers into the thousands, many people got to try shooting and experienced this safe, fun and unique sport. There were many smiles and lots of heated but friendly competition between mums and dads, sons and daughters, husbands and wives with many confident, experienced participants walking away red faced as their novice competitors showed them up. This year, juniors (aged 12 to 17) who were accompanied by their parent or legal guardian had extra motivation with the ability to go into draws to win a SSAA NSW prize pack for every target they shot and brought to the SSAA NSW booth. Many have vowed to return in 2018 and we look forward to seeing them there.
