AGM and will decide how their delegates will vote or respond to these matters. In order to be appointed, delegates must be: • a current financial member of the Branch at the time of appointment and also at the time of the AGM; • appointed by a resolution of the Branch Committee or the Branch AGM; and • free from any conflict or pecuniary interest with SSAA NSW or any Branch. Branch AGMs AGMs are a perfect opportunity for members to have input into their Branch activities and direction. AGMs are also the time for members to become involved in their Branch, as well as receive reports and updates from their Branch Committee on the activities of the previous year and elect Committee members for the coming year. More often than not Branches have difficulty filling Committee positions, which results in the same people having to re-stand and, where all positions are not filled, the same small group having to shoulder the workload resulting from administrative requirements, managing range facilities and providing activities and opportunities for members. Being part of a Branch Committee also enables interested members to find out more about how the association operates, be better informed and have further opportunities to provide feedback and input. It's important to note that in order for a Branch AGM to be 'legal' it requires a quorum; a minimum number of members to attend the meeting. Any decisions or elections that result from a meeting where the minimum number of members (or quorum) are not in attendance are potentially invalid. A quorum is a requirement under the Branch Constitution and also the Associations Incorporation Act 2009. Many Branches struggle to get their quorum at an AGM so it's extremely important that as many members as possible attend their Branch AGM. Each member must be sent a meeting notice at least 2 weeks prior to the meeting; this is also a requirement of your Branch Constitution. The notice of meeting will also contain information on how members can nominate for election to the Branch Committee. If you're not sure when your AGM is or how to nominate for a Committee position, make contact with your Branch Secretary to get the details – I'm sure they'll be only too happy to assist you. 2018 MEMBER MARKET RESEARCH PROJECT Past market research undertaken by SSAA NSW has shown that members want and expect different things from their membership. It's also highlighted that they interact differently with their association and Branch, and are looking for information to be delivered in different ways. This makes perfect sense in an organisation the size of SSAA NSW; in order to meet these demands, we need to be able to deliver multiple benefits and opportunities as well as communicate with members and other stakeholders in a variety of ways using the various platforms available. SSAA NSW is undertaking a major market research project this year to guide and enhance our future planning for the association as well as its resource allocation and to review where priorities should be focussed in order to meet member expectations. All members will have opportunities to put forward their views on the direction they would like to see SSAA NSW head in the coming years. We're launching a member survey in conjunction with the June edition of the NSW Shooter, as well as holding focus groups with stakeholders throughout the state and facilitated workshops with different groups including delegates at the SSAA NSW AGM. The more feedback we receive the better informed SSAA NSW will be to ensure our future efforts are meeting the expectations of members and achieving the desired results… so keep an eye out for an opportunity to have your say! The challenge is to find the right balance so that we can deliver for all members – to do that we need all members to have their say! Diana Melham Executive Director - SSAA (NSW) Inc.
