The Firearms Registry has embarked on developing a new information and communication system which will enable our customers to apply for or renew their firearm licences, and apply for Permits to Acquire online. These services will give customers a faster, more accessible and easier-to-do-business experience with the Firearms Registry. Service NSW will provide the platform on which Firearms Registry customers can apply for and renew licences and Permits to Acquire. Our customers will need to have a Service NSW Account which is linked to NSW Police to be able to use the online services. If they do not yet already have one, they can visit the Service NSW website at www.service.nsw.gov.au and create an account in preparation for the online services. Once customers have their Service NSW account they will have the options to apply for a PTA, licence renewal or a new firearms licence. When the application has been submitted online, the forms are received at the Firearms Registry for adjudication. This new process will reduce unnecessary waiting times and phone calls to the Firearms Registry, and the time taken to mail and receive by mail some forms. Over the past several years the Firearms Registry has been subject to independent reviews focusing on improving the customer's experience. Our aim is to provide a faster, seamless and more efficient customer experience. In the past year we have visited regional NSW inviting dealers, armourers, and club officials to share the direction that the Firearms Registry is moving towards and to be involved in the conceptual design of the new system. These events were extremely beneficial in providing the Firearms Registry with insight into the difficulties experienced by our customers and the opportunity to understand what is important to our customers. The Firearms Registry is working closely with the peak firearm and shooting associations so that customers' requirements have been considered in the development of the new system. Meeting every second month, the peak associations working group, which includes representation from the SSAA, has provided input, ideas and assist with reviewing support material for the system. In the coming months we will be asking some of our customers to help test the new system and to run some pilots to make sure the system is working correctly. If your licence is coming up for renewal over the next few months we may be contacting you to take part in a pilot. Keep an eye out for updates from either the Firearms Registry on our website at www. police.nsw.gov.au/services or NSW SSAA for further dates and information about when we will be offering these services online.
