10 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. SSAA NSW is currently undertaking a major market research project to: • guide our future planning, • test our current strategic assumptions, • inform resource allocation, and • determine where our priorities should be focussed. The aim of this project is two-fold and will incorporate internal and external components. In line with our principle of evidence-based approaches, SSAA NSW has engaged a professional market research company, Review Partners, to provide credible, facts-based information and statistics to answer the following two questions: 1. What do our members want and expect from SSAA NSW? Inherent in such a large and diverse membership base is a variety of views, opinions, agendas and motivations. The challenge for SSAA NSW is getting a true picture of what our members want, what our sport needs, and what is essential for our Association to continue to thrive and grow. SSAA NSW's past market research has shown that members want and expect different things from their membership. It also highlighted that they interact differently with SSAA NSW, their Branch and are looking for information to be delivered in different ways. This professional and transparent approach will enable SSAA NSW to get a true picture of: • what the majority of members want and not get side- tracked by 'squeaky wheels', and • the expectations of the majority of members and differentiate these from personal agendas or those driven by outside influences. 2. What is the public perception and how can we change it? Credible data on community perceptions regarding the shooting sports, recreational hunting and firearms ownership is rare if not non-existent. To date, any public relations and promotional strategies are based on untested assumptions which also makes it difficult to measure their success. SSAA NSW is leading the way with its initiative to gather credible, facts-based information and statistics on public perception. In line with our objective to unify the shooting sports, SSAA NSW will also be sharing this information with other like-minded pro- shooting organisations as part of an industry and sport wide united voice to increase the understanding, awareness and acceptance of our chosen recreational activities. To maximise the opportunity for as many members and representative groups within SSAA NSW to provide their opinions and feedback, there are multiple components being undertaken to gather information. SSAA NSW MEMBER SURVEY – Have Your Say Our Member Survey gives all members an opportunity to put forward their views on the direction they would like to see SSAA NSW head in the coming years. The Member Survey has been launched in conjunction with this edition of the NSW Shooter. A paper version of the survey has been included with this edition, however we strongly encourage all members to complete the survey online wherever possible – the online version includes more questions and provides more opportunities for feedback.
