16 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Just shy of 17,000 people packed Rosehill Racecourse across the weekend of 23-24 June for the 2018 SSAA SHOT Expo, with plenty on offer for firearms, hunting and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. While mum and dad were having a blast, more than a few younger attendees found themselves entranced by the jumping castle on offer and plenty of kids also took advantage of the free face painting. In fact, we had so many young families in attendance, we had more than a handful of pram-jams inside the exhibition halls, a demonstration of how appealing the Expo was to families and attendees of all ages. SSAA NSW volunteers were on hand to introduce a new generation to our sport through the Mobile Air Rifle Range and the Indoor Air Rifle and Pistol Range, with the only disappointment being among those young shooters under the age of 12 who were unable to take their shot due to NSW legislation. For those younger attendees who were unable to shoot, their disappointment was well and truly compensated for by the archery range which stood alongside the indoor range. Inside the main hall were regular displays of deer caping, with the smells of stir fries and grills from the Field to Fork display ensuring everyone on hand was very quick to head to one of the many high-quality meat stands. Biltong and salami appeared the most popular across the weekend, featuring game meats including buffalo, crocodile, duck and venison. For the animal lovers, the working gun dog displays were standing room only, as hunters put their loyal canine friends to use in chasing down the rubber birds used to simulate a duck shoot. As always, for those inspired by the efforts of the working gun dogs, R Licence accreditations were offered throughout the day, and we thank our volunteers from right across NSW for their time and efforts in providing not just the R Licences, but also safe shooting courses, which were at or near capacity for the entire weekend.
