If there is a project that you believe SSAA NSW should consider, please do not hesitate to let us know. A land acquisition strategy is being developed so our ranges are accessible across the state. If you are aware of any parcel of land that could fit a template on, please let me know. A booklet on what to look for when wanting to build a range is almost complete. As part of this strategy, it is important that we cater for all disciplines and although all projects require funding, if we do not plan, we cannot deliver. Future Focussed – Hunting / Conservation Management Your Board and I are also looking for more hunting opportunities for members and already SSAA NSW plays a pivotal role in conservation management programs. The Supplementary Pest Control Program is now underway with the first operation being conducted in July at Central Mallee (Yathong / Nombinnie). Activities in this space include promoting the Farmer Assist program, identifying opportunities with Government for SSAA NSW to assist in pest management and opportunities to provide protein to a leading food charity are all being explored. I welcome any ideas you have as how we can boost opportunities in this regard. Future Focussed – Grants and Financial Assistance SSAA NSW returns Member funds back to Members with the following programs: Administrative Grants – Branches who meet certain criteria receive an amount per member. This allows Branches to operate, promote our sport and of course ensure your governance obligations are funded. Development Grants – SSAA NSW allocates up to $100,000 each year for Branches to complete minor projects at their ranges. We encourage your Branch to put in an application. Range Development Fund – A fund ran by SSAA NSW to build new or upgrade existing ranges. Discipline Funding – Funding for Branches to host State Titles. We are simplifying this process so it is easier to obtain. Additional Funding – SSAA NSW funds directly for Branches and Members other services such as the electronic attendance system which can be around $3,000 per Branch, magazines for Members keeping you up to date on the latest news and events, material and other support. We also advocate for law abiding firearms owners and run training programs. Our staff are also a service to Members. When you look at what SSAA NSW offers its Members, no other similar organisation comes close in the financial support to promote our sport. We are all in this together and the funds received each year are spent on our Members and their interests. With support from the Board, I am setting up a service to Branches that need support in applying for grants whether large or small. This could mean the difference between a new range or keeping an existing one open. I will write to your Branch soon, as to how to get involved. Future Focussed – Membership I have briefly outlined some of the financial assistance available by SSAA NSW and in the past outlined the opportunity for us having a common voice with 56,000 members strong. A key ingredient to a successful SSAA NSW is having a large and growing membership. If we all asked one friend or family member to try shooting and join SSAA NSW, our membership would sky rocket and even more services could be provided. A real opportunity is to increase our female membership base. Women account for approximately 9% of our membership. If we asked our wives, girlfriends or female friends to get involved in this great family sport, we would double our membership overnight. Our members are our future and we value you as a member. I know, like me, you are proud to be SSAA. My challenge to you over the next month is to invite your partner, family member or friend to join SSAA NSW. Your support will ensure a strong future for us all. There is a lot of positive things happening at SSAA NSW and I look forward to sharing this journey with you and updating you of what is being achieved.
