4 Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Jai's Journal G'day and welcome to another edition It has been a fantastic few months as we continue to modernise and find better ways to deliver for you: our Members and Volunteers. A big shout out to all involved at the Junior camp held at Batemans Bay. I was impressed with our next generation as well as volunteers from the Branch. Our future is bright! Member Focussed A great organisation is one that listens to its members and as I have travelled through NSW visiting Branches, ranges and Members I have been overwhelmed by your willingness to work with myself and the NSW Board to identify ways to strengthen SSAA NSW. Many of your ideas are being implemented and we are keen to hear more. Our membership is what drives us everyday to do better. Without your hard work and volunteering, our sport would cease to exist. We work for all 56,000 members and as your CEO; I do not take that responsibility lightly. We are reviewing our internal processes to improve your experience as a member. For example, the roll out of the electronic attendance system is occurring and already more than 40% of attendances are captured electronically through a swipe of your membership card. This removes the burden of paperwork. The goal is to hit 90% coverage by the end of the year. We are trialling a new phone system so you can contact us directly instead of going through a complicated outdated phone system. Once we have successfully completed the trial, we will move to a new number. Your President Lance Miller has outlined the roll out of Office 365 for Branches making it easier to communicate. I encourage your Branch to move to this system at SSAA NSW cost, saving time and money. Other internal changes to processes are occurring and if you have a great idea please let me know. Change is a continual process and it is important we take as much of the workload from you so you can enjoy our sport. Leadership Driven Recently we held the SSAA NSW AGM which was a huge success with delegates ranging from 19 to 80 years plus. The two-day event discussed achievements of the previous year and the positive direction for the next 12 months. Plans for the 2020 SSAA NSW AGM are underway with exciting announcements to be made with a few changes to the format and possible location. We are at our strongest when we focus on the future and I believe our best days are ahead of us as an organisation. At the AGM, the election of five office bearers were conducted and I congratulate those who were elected and those who put their hand up to serve. I look forward to working with a full board delivering for our Members. Recently, our National SSAA held it's AGM in Perth. I am pleased to announce that your President Lance was elected unopposed as the National SSAA Senior Vice President. A big congratulations to Lance ensuring that SSAA NSW has a strong voice at the national level. Already this is paying dividends. Future Focussed - Ranges By now you have heard me say that everything we do must be focussed on our future. Apart from reviewing internal processes we are investing significant resources building new ranges or upgrading existing ones. We acknowledge that ranges that do not have a full template are at risk of closure from overdevelopment, loss of permissive shooting rights and the list goes on and on. Projects have been identified in consultation with Branches and work commenced. Our Forbes range was at risk and needed upgrading. I am pleased to say that in only a month since commencing the $200,000 project, it is more than halfway complete and will come in within budget. We were very pleased to receive a commitment from the NSW Government of $3 million dollars to build a world class shooting complex at Dubbo. We are working hard on planning and consultation with the Branch and stakeholders will now commence. I look forward in delivering a facility nothing like that has been seen before in NSW. The partition for the Macksville range is now complete and work will commence with the local Branch on amendments to the DA at the range so to be able to make the best use of this great range. I won't list every project here, however it's important to highlight that there are many projects both large and small and they are a key focus of the Board and I to ensure they are delivered. My Operations Manager Luke Gilbert and I have experience in delivery of infrastructure and project management. It is important that we complete these projects as soon as possible. I will keep you updated.
