Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 7 The SSAA NSW owned range at Forbes, like many other ranges is limited by both the size of neighbouring land available for the range danger area and its dependence upon the good will of those land owners. Being so close to town and subject to the threat of further urban expansion, any change in ownership of neighbouring land or the withdrawal of permissive shooting rights represents a very real and constant threat. Considering the possibility of a very limited future, the Board made the decision to future proof and upgrade the range's capabilities in one operation. Earthworks have commenced and this range is now on its way to a bigger and brighter future. All work being conducted meets the approval of both the Forbes Shire Council and the NSW Police Firearms Registry and complies with all required standards to ensure the safety of those using the range as well as the safety of all persons in the vicinity of the facility. As a limited danger area range, eyebrow baffles at the firing point are used to capture any inadvertent high shots in conjunction with ground baffles to capture possible ground strikes preventing ricochets. Sidewalls are being constructed on both sides of the range extending from the firing point to and extending into the raised stop butts. The added benefit is that the range will be able to cater for centrefire rifle in addition to rimfire and pistol as currently approved. The shotgun section of the range remains unaffected and will operate as normal. Additional expertise in the form of civil engineering and architectural drawings as well as on site project management has been provided by range specialists PCM Enviro. Completion of the works is due in July with the Branch taking an active roll in partnering with our contractor to get the job done and reducing costs. SSAA (NSW) has started work on an exciting upgrade to our Forbes Range
