Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 9 After dinner we prepared the indoor rifle range for a two hour practice session that would help our juniors prepare for the scoped air rifle competition to come on the final day of the camp. Day 2 – Continuing on with our benchrest theme, we again took out the rimfire benchrest rifles for 2 rounds of a BR30 competition. Conditions were more favourable with lighter winds than the day before. At the end of the shoot there was just 100 points separating the top 5 competitors so it was anyone's game. Just as impressive was that the team scores were separated by just 30 points. But it was Riley who walked away with the win with an impressive 2225, with Jirrah coming second on 2085 and followed closely by Isaac on 2035. Straight after lunch we were onto the reactive targets shooting scoped rimfire rifle metallic silhouette targets with chickens set at 40 metres, pigs at 60 metres, turkeys at 77 metres and rams at 100 metres. The low setting sun provided a challenge but nonetheless, the juniors were able to push through. Rams proved to be the most difficult targets to hit with only 38 out of a possible 200 eating the dirt. However, one of the standouts had to be young Caitlyn who managed to knock over 8/10 rams. At the conclusion of the shoot we had a tie for first, however on a countback of the number of consecutive targets shot a winner was determined. William walked away triumphant on 19 points, having two runs of 4 consecutive targets knocked down. James took second place also on 19 points with one run of 4 consecutive targets. Taking away the bronze medal was Abbey on 16 points. Day 3 – The morning was dedicated to giving our juniors the opportunity to shoot larger centrefire rifles at a variety of targets and distances. Bryson provided our juniors with a real treat in bringing out his muzzleloader. Something that many shooters these days have never had the opportunity to see firsthand or try themselves. We also had .303 military rifles shooting targets out to 200 meters, a 6.5 benchrest rifle shooting fly targets out to 500 meters and the extremely noisy .308 shooting fly targets and ram metallic silhouette target at 500 meters. Whilst this wasn't a scored event, there was some healthy and friendly competition on the .308 trying to hit the ram target five times consecutively. Special mentions have to be given to Piper and William for their efforts in hitting the ram four times each but the champion and special commendation award of a Kolpin gunbag was awarded to Craig for hitting 5/5. The afternoon saw us move to more reactive targets as we burnt powder and shattered clays down on the shotgun trap range. The targets were tricky, the setting sun was becoming difficult to see the birds in the bright sky, but we managed to get all 4 details in, including a welcome visit from our CEO, who spoke to the Juniors and Volunteers. William streaked away with the win with a score of 58 out of a possible 75, followed by Aliza in second place on 38 and in third, Abbey on 34.
