11 NOVEMBER 2021 Jai's Journal G'day Members, We are at that time of year again when we start preparing for Christmas. With the opening of our State we also hope you have the opportunity to get to your local range and have a shoot or get out into the wilderness. COVID-19 The Australian and NSW Governments have placed various restrictions throughout the year which affect not just sporting organisations but business and community groups also. Although at times the rules have come in fast without notice I want take this opportunity to thank all of our Members and Branches for their hard work adapting and ensuring they remained compliant with the rules. It is good to see many ranges now open with many more working towards opening soon. Branches have taken the opportunity to undertake repairs and maintenance during this closure period, so if you do go out to your range over the summer break, please take the time to thank the volunteers at your range who work tirelessly to ensure the range is operational. Our dedicated volunteers give up their time to perform tasks including required administrative work or range officer duties. Without our volunteers we would not be the same organisation that we are today - on behalf of SSAA NSW, thank you to our volunteers! ADVOCACY Even though the Government had everyone in lockdown, SSAA NSW has got on with the job and never slowed. We have had a very big year advocating for matters that would negatively affect legal firearms owners. SSAA NSW has also been requested to put in submissions on proposed Government reforms. I take this opportunity to thank our President Lance Miller, our Board and staff for working hard with myself throughout the year to ensure that we were able to put in a submission to every proposed change that could affect our sport and recreation. In addition to the submission research and writing, SSAA NSW has undertaken more advocacy then ever before, liaising with Government, Opposition and the Crossbench parties on important matters including, but not limited to: • Firearms and Weapons (Criminal Use) Bill; • Firearms Amnesty; • Mandatory attendance relief; • Explosive Regulation 2021; • Animal Welfare Reform; and • the proposed changes by the Environmental Protection Authority regarding noise on ranges. SSAA NSW has been successful in achieving evidence based solution on these and many matters. As part of our ongoing commitment to member services, we have formalised our advocacy on individual member matters with Firearms Registry and JAI ROWELL CEO, SSAA NSW
