6 AGM The escalating COVID-19 situation across the state has led to some Branches understandably indicating a reluctance to attend the 2020/2021 SSAA NSW AGM in person. Their concerns include travel risks and the uncertainty around lockdowns. Further to this, postponing the AGM for another year is not an option due to the importance of the election of office bearers and the desire to ensure best governance is consistently maintained. As previously advised, the Office of Fair Trading has directed that SSAA NSW must convert to a Company Limited by Guarantee this year and an AGM is required to achieve that. This has led to the decision to hold the 2020/2021 AGM electronically so that all may attend and contribute, despite distance and health concerns. With the worldwide spread of COVID-19 over the past 12 months, many organisations have successfully conducted AGMs in this way, which has given rise to many specialised digital companies and technicians who can easily facilitate such an event. SSAA NSW has engaged a professional company to manage this process and ensure the efficiency and ease of communication, as well as privacy and security of the event. Elections will also be conducted electronically (as per a standard AGM) and there will be a system in place to coordinate this securely and independently. SUPPORTING MEMBERS SSAA NSW has long been advocating on behalf of all Members with regards to a backlog of processing and application delays with NSW Firearms Registry. While NSW Firearms Registry has recently allocated additional resources to overcome their substantial backlog, we know that delays are still affecting many of our Members. With this in mind, SSAA NSW is now making individual representations on behalf of Members who are still awaiting applications that have been delayed for extended periods of time. We have had an overwhelming response from Members who are still experiencing significant delays and we are working towards solving these issues. SUPPORTING RANGES In serving our Branches, we regularly seek to acquire funding for projects and upgrades to ranges and clubhouses to improve the experience for Members and all those who attend our ranges.
