NSW Firearms Registry LICENCE RENEWALS & CHANGE OF DETAILS RENEWAL NOTICES All Firearm licence holders renewal notices are posted to customers from the Firearms Registry 90 days prior to expiry. It is important to return the completed renewal application as early as possible to ensure your reapplication is processed without delay. CONTINUED AUTHORITY Renewal applications received at the Firearms Registry prior to the expiry of your current licence are subject to Clause 18 of the Firearms Regulation 2006. This means you are licensed until the Firearms Registry either issues or refuses your application. INCOMPLETE APPLICATION If you have failed to complete your application or are requested to supply additional information, your response goes to the back of the queue and is processed in date order when the Firearms Registry receives your additional information. Don't panic, you are still licensed to possess and use firearms providing the Firearms Registry has received your 'Licence Renewal' prior to the expiry of your current licence. PUBLIC REGISTER You may check the progress of your application on the Firearms Registry's Public Register. http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/services/firearms LATE APPLICATION Licence applications received after the expiry of your previous licence are treated as a new application and all documentation in support of that application must be supplied to the Firearms Registry. As you are now unauthorised to possess and use firearms until your application is processed, the Firearms Registry may request police to seize your firearms and keep them in safekeeping until you are licensed or you make suitable arrangements for disposal. EXPIRED LICENCES If you do not intend to renew your firearms licence or you have failed to submit a renewal application and your licence expires, you are no longer authorised to possess and use firearms. If you do not intend to renew your firearms licence it is important that you make arrangements to dispose of your firearms in accordance with the law prior to the expiry of your licence. This will avoid the possibility of being charged with an offence under the Firearms Act. CHANGE OF DETAILS It is your responsibility under firearms law to notify the Firearms Registry of any change of details with regards to your firearms licence or registered firearms, including changes to your residential/postal address; changes to the address where you store your firearms and any changes to your genuine reason. Please note: The NSW Roads & Maritime Service does not notify the Firearms Registry when you change your address on your drivers licence as these systems are not linked. You must contact the Firearms Registry. There is a 'Change of Details' form on the Firearms Registry website under 'Forms'.
