Field Rifle Competition at St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre Are you a hunter who wants to practice some common shooting positions while at the Range? Have you considered Field Rifle? The Field Rifle discipline was developed by hunters to practice common shooting positions used in the field and a competition is held at St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre every Thursday and Friday night. Off Hand – shot standing, unsupported, over 25 metres. 10 rounds fired, 5 on each target, with a 15 minute time limit. Standing Post – shot standing, using a post for support, over 50 metres. 10 rounds fired, 5 on each target, within a 15 minute time limit. Sitting Post – shot sitting or kneeling, using a post for support, over 50 metres. 10 rounds fired, 5 on each target, with a 15 minute time limit. Each competition has four categories. The Open category is graded. For first timers their grade is determined by their first score. Competitors progress to a higher grade by shooting 3 scores greater than their current grade. The League category is a handicap event and is awarded to the most improved shooter. The Ladies and Junior category awards are given to the best female and junior shooter determined by average scores. If you are interested in joining the Field Rifle competition at St Marys Indoor Shooting Centre you must have a Category A Firearms Licence that includes Target Shooting. Rifles must be .22 Long Range Rimfire weighing no more than 4kgs including all attachments you use while shooting, except for a sling. Scopes and magazines are strongly recommended but not required.
