Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 7 Joe Rossi is SSAA NSW Illawarra Branch's Hunting and Conservation Offi cer and has held this position for over 4 years. Originally the main role was to organise our general meetings or hunting information nights for our members. Joe saw potential for growth beyond this and started planning, coordinating, and leading club hunts to both state forests in NSW and trips to Victoria. In 3 years Joe has organised and led over twenty of these trips, not only donating his valuable time and expertise but in many cases putting his trust in the unknown. For many of us we are reluctant to invite new people along to hunting trips for the fear of the unknown. Are they as safe as me? I don't want to take them to my favourite spot, and the list could go on. In many cases these trips have served as an education for new hunters. Joe has imparted his extensive knowledge of not only hunting but valuable bush survival skills to these new and inexperienced hunters. These new or inexperienced hunters from our Branch have walked away from these trips with a positive experience and with the confi dence and skills to give it a go on their own. This is evident in the surge of R-licence tests our Branch testers have performed which is a contributing factor to the increase in our Branch membership. SSAA NSW Adult Hunter of the Year (Contribution to hunting) Nomination J.Rossi with a good sized pig shot on a SSAA NSW Illawarra Branch hunt J.Rossi 2nd Right on one of many SSAA NSW Illawarra Branch hunts with members.
