Karl 'Karlos' Simpson, 16 years old What do you enjoy most about target shooting? "Shooting is a very challenging sport that requires utter concentration, focus, patience, commitment and devotion. I enjoy the fact that there is always something to learn and gain each time I use a rifl e whether it is perfecting a technique or developing a whole new skill altogether." Your journey so far… "Ever since obtaining my minors permit I have been constantly trying to improve and achieve the best that I can. During my four years of shooting I have been to many competitions and weekend shoots. Recently I have competed in the State and National Hunter Class Championships and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and am very grateful to have had the chance to do so I also look forward to what the future holds." Alicia McMannus, 16 years old How did you become interested in shooting? "I'd never shot a gun before I got my licence and my Dad had a big say in me joining the team. It's something that I never thought I would do." Your journey so far… "It's been so much fun, especially taking part in all the competitions and shooting at the State and National levels. It's been enjoyable meeting new people and seeing the look on their faces when I tell them that I do target shooting!" Ben 'Dawso' Dawson, 16 years old What inspired you to start the sport? "I've been shooting for a while but had never experienced target shooting until I started with the Duval team. My Dad has been an inspiration for my shooting as he and I would regularly and still do go shooting on our property." Your journey so far… "This journey has been one of the best experiences of my life, from going to the range weekly to making it to National Championship level, I have learnt heaps and made many memorable moments with my fellow shooting team mates." Douglas 'Doug' Rowe-Dawson, 17 years old Do you have a favourite rifl e? "I don't really have a particularly favourite rifl e as I have always been taught that it doesn't matter what type of rifl e you use or the quality. If you are a good shooter you can get a good result with any rifl e." Your journey so far… "My journey so far with the Duval High rifl e team has been a valuable experience over the years. I have gained experience and knowledge that I will take with me for the rest of my life. I have met some interesting and impressive people throughout this time and I would like to think that I have taken something from these people that will make me better off. (Coaches) Tom and Sonia are excellent mentors that have helped me to no end, developing the skills and knowledge to succeed in this sport."
