Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 9 SSAA National Sporting Clays Championships A perfect 25 score in the shoot-off A large contingent of NSW sporting clay shooters attended the SSAA National Sporting Clays Championships at SSAA Shepparton in Victoria on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September. They joined competitors from Victoria and Queensland to compete in this 200 target event that was contested on two excellent sporting clays layouts. Shooting competition took place in fi ne spring weather as the shooters were challenged by a wide range of different targets that made them work for a good score. A number of NSW shooters recorded grade wins at the Championships, they were Alf Gugliemino, Greg Allen, Justin Badaco, Casey Jacka and Max Kavanagh. However the standout was young shooter Brandon Gugliemino from Griffi th who took out the the Sub-Junior High Gun event with a superb score of 132. Gugliemino has been shooting for less than a year and it was an impressive achievement that adds to the gold medal he won at the recent SSAA NSW Sporting Clays State Titles at Griffi th. With an average of 17 broken targets over the eight rounds of the Championship, Gugliemino's consistent scores even eclipsed many of the more experienced competitors. Griffi th shooter Bart Brighenti managed to score a perfect round of 25 targets together with Nick Guerra, Nathan March and Grant Sandford from Victoria and Noel Lillis from Queensland. Guerra was crowned SSAA National Sporting Clays Champion after a thrilling shoot-off with Peter Hall from Melbourne. Both shooters were tied on 179 targets at the end of regular competition and went into the shoot-off. In the shoot-off, the target distance and speed were increased to test these two very capable shots and see who emerged on top. Guerra put in a world class performance in the 25 target shoot-off as he hit all 25 targets to record a perfect round score under extreme pressure. His opponent Hall fell just short with a score of 22. The shoot was generously sponsored by SSAA, IntoShooting, Gamebore Cartridges and Casella Wines. The Championships were well organised and run by SSAA Shepparton Branch with the traps, offi ce administration and catering working very effi ciently over the weekend to make it an enjoyed experience for competitors and spectators alike.
