Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 7 Man from Snowy River dominates 2014 SSAA NSW Rifle Metallic Silhouette State Titles On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 November, SSAA NSW Batemans Bay Branch hosted the SSAA NSW Rifle Metallic Silhouette State Titles at the Deep Creek Shooting Complex. The competition was preceded by a practice session on Friday in ideal conditions with all the silhouettes standing out against a background of green spring grass and blue skies. Despite the perfect shooting conditions, few early comers knew about the gale wind warnings out for Saturday. As the next day came, so did the wind, a swirling gusting gale made hitting high scores near impossible for the shooters competing in the Rimfire Silhouette, Centrefire Silhouette Rifle and Air Rifle events. To their credit the competitors took it in their stride, laughed and joked about the weather and got on with their shooting. The weather eased up late Saturday afternoon and the conditions remained relatively calm for the remainder of the competition. However, Snowy River shooter Dan Southern thrived under the tough conditions as he placed first in the Rimfire Silhouette and Centrefire Silhouette Rifle shoots. On Sunday, under much better conditions, shooters took part in the Rimfire Hunting Rifle and Centrefire Hunting Class events. Dan Southern continued his brilliant shooting form to win the Rimfire Hunting Rifle however local Batemans Bay shooter Daniel Ison won the Centrefire Hunting Rifle. Dan Southern's three event wins helped him top the 5-Gun Aggregate score with 130. A big thank you to all who helped in preparation and on the weekend, it would not happen without you.
