SSAA NSW Executive Director, Diana Melham, says it's a great initiative from the Illawarra Branch and sets an example of community and environment involvement for all Branches around NSW. "I congratulate SSAA NSW Illawarra Branch and its volunteers who have given their time and hard work over the last 14 years. It's a magnifi cent achievement and I hope it inspires all our Branches and members to be more environmentally conscious. Long-term SSAA NSW Illawarra Branch volunteer and Life Member Alois Ambs says by being involved every year, it helps show how hunters and shooters are also environmentally responsible and conservational-minded people. "We feel that this is a good way to be involved with the council and community and we've always received quite a good response from all our members present, not to mention the big environmental benefi ts achieved," Mr Ambs said. "Wollongong City Council has always presented us with a 'Rise and Shine' Environmental Award and a $100 cheque for the Branch, this helps our members get on board." In 2004, SSAA NSW Illawarra Branch received a framed award in recognition of their services to the council along with a standing ovation from all present including Greens councillors and others who would normally object to hunters and shooters.
