Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 11 The Outdoor Recreation Party The Outdoor Recreation Party had a member in the NSW Upper House from 1999 to 2007. We are now seeking to regain that seat to bring back some balance to Parliament. If elected, the Outdoor Recreation Party will support: Four wheel driving: • Free access by all vehicles to public land • No discrimination against 4WDs • No restrictions on suspensions or bull-bars Fishing: • Repeal all marine parks since 1995 • Bag and size limits but no fishing licences Shooting and hunting: • Repeal of unjust and illogical gun laws including the "ammo" bill • Hunting of feral animals in National Parks • Sustainable harvesting of wild ducks in season Traffic laws: • Focus on innocent victim safety, not revenue • No harassment of young drivers • Higher speed limits based on 85th percentile Hikers, bush walkers, skiers: • Free access to public land • Dog walking (under control) in National Parks • Excision of ski fields from National Parks • Encouragement, not discouragement Environment: • No bans on land clearing • A viable, renewable forestry industry • Keeping native animals as pets • Active local management of National Parks For more, visit: www.orp.org.au The Outdoor Recreation Party believes restrictions on outdoor activities are part of a larger problem of excessive regulation, bureaucracy and government intrusion. In National Parks, four wheel drivers and others face closed tracks, dog owners cannot walk their pets and skiing is hampered. Meanwhile, parks are mismanaged and neglected with many feral animals, rampant weeds and uncontrolled fuel loads. Recreational fishers face a growing web of regulations that threaten our most popular and enduring outdoor pastime. Sporting shooters and hunters face unreasonable licensing and registration requirements and rules on storage, transport and use of firearms. The "ammo" bill restricts what ammunition a licenced firearms owner can buy. Motorcyclists and modified car enthusiasts face restrictions that assume they are irresponsible, insane or criminal. Cyclists are put off going for a healthy ride by the law forcing them to wear uncomfortable and inconvenient helmets. Rural property owners face growing restrictions on what they can do with their own land, with no respect for property rights. Motorists face speed limits that are out of step with community standards and enforcement based on revenue-raising. Young drivers are singled out, causing anger and alienation. The Outdoor Recreation Party believes humans are integral to the environment. Unlike those who want to look at our parks from a distance, we support active management including the involvement of volunteers. Peter Whelan
