Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 9 Duval High School Rifl e Team Last year in the October edition of the NSW Shooter we were fi rst introduced to a talented group of junior shooters from Duval High School in Armidale. We're pleased to be able to provide an update on the team from coordinator Suellen Simpson. Flags donated to Duval High Rifl e Team For the past three years the team has been shooting for sport on Thursday afternoons at the SSAA NSW Guyra Branch range located at 'Loch Abba' property. However, property owner Tom Keys has been unavailable for the fi rst part of this year so arrangements were made for the students to continue shooting at the Armidale Pistol Club. Both SSAA NSW Guyra Branch and SSAA NSW Armidale Branch should be commended for their generous spirit and tireless support of our students. Term One included a great few weeks of shooting with the team participating in a number of disciplines including Field Rifl e, Hunter Class and International Rimfi re Benchrest. SSAA NSW Armidale Branch members Norm and Megan Wheeler, Grahame Walsh, Richard Drozdowski, Bill Andrews, Joy Harrison, Brett Purkiss, Alan Johnson and Graham Burke have all helped our students with supplying rifl es and equipment while their outstanding mentorship and guidance has enabled the juniors to improve their skills every week. Reading the wind has been a big focus in Term One and until recently the Rifl e Team have not had any fl ags. Thanks to the generosity of a local Armidale business who donated funds to purchase a set of fl ags and also to Barry Edgley who donated a set to the school. The fl ags are brilliant and invaluable to the team who are very proud and thankful for the assistance. Three members of the team Alex Rogers, Kolja Drydale- Cech and Karl Simpson also took part in an Interclub shoot between Armidale and Glen Innes. The overall winner in the grouping event was Duval High team member Karl with a fantastic minute angle score of 0.504. Other Juniors also performed well, with Zachary Wheeler scoring 0.7708, Kolja shooting a 1.2224 and Alex fi nishing with 1.728. It was another great shoot and congratulations to all the shooters on the day. In Term Two, students will continue attending ranges and gaining valuable coaching from a wonderful group of dedicated shooters. A special thanks to Mr Stafford Cameron, Principal of Duval High for his continued support.
