Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 3 President's Message First, I'd like to thank the Branches at our Annual AGM for your resounding vote of confidence in re- electing me as President of SSAA NSW for another three years. Rebuilding the SSAA NSW over the last six years has been a tough battle at times but today the results speak for themselves. We now have over 52,000 members and growing fast. New multi discipline shooting complexes worth over one million dollars are being built at Armidale and Dubbo. The Wagga range has undergone a huge renovation. The loss making Tilterweira property has now been sold with the funds to be used on new shooting opportunities. We now have a new State Constitution and Strategic Plan to take us into the future. What's more, SSAA Sydney Branch President James Walsh has confirmed Sydney is now back on the Anzac range at Malabar. Also the new "Branch Open Line" communication with the NSW Board will give Branches a new level of inclusiveness. SSAA members strike GOLD Have you insured your firearms for only $25 with the SSAA Gold membership offer? You get $25,000 worth of firearms insurance cover at home or away for only an extra $25. You'll save money by taking your firearms off your home contents policy, I did and saved over $120. Excellent results from our National Park pioneer hunters The partnership between SSAA NSW and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, the Supplementary Pest Control Program, is now showing some excellent results. Members who have joined the Program and become 'Qualified Supplementary Pest Control Volunteers' are genuine pioneers, being the first to hunt in the 12 selected Parks across NSW for the three year trial period. Their results at the time of writing for 19 operations are as follows: 18 foxes, 20 feral cats, 1551 feral goats, 323 feral pigs, 40 fallow deer, 1 red deer and 893 rabbits. That's a grand total of 2846 target species removed. This has contributed to the other pest management programs NPWS is running on the 12 reserves. The first of three reports by the Natural Resource Commission, the independent evaluator of the program, has been handed to the Minister. The report is very positive and SSAA NSW is confident that the program could continue beyond the three year trial. More good news for our Hunters - SSAA Farmer Assist This is another SSAA exclusive hunting initiative. The SSAA Farmer Assist program is fully operational in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia and was featured on the ABC's Landline program. All over NSW farmers are battling pests that destroy stock and pastures. Farmers who register with the program will be matched to SSAA shooters who will clear out their pest problems. Currently SSAA NSW is working with SSAA National in setting up this great hunting initiative, more details soon. Help a non-member get more from their sport There are over 800,000 firearms licence holders in Australia, in NSW alone there are over 220,000 licenced shooters. As a member of the SSAA you are part of the largest shooting organisation in Australia and the second largest in the world. In fact we have more members per capita than American NRA. If you know a shooter who is not a member tell them about the benefits of joining the SSAA. They'll get the full colour magazine Australian Shooter as well as public liability and personal accident insurance. Every issue of this world class magazine is loaded with firearms news, reviews and new product ideas. They'll have member access to ranges, shooting competitions, hunting opportunities and National and State political support. Plus they'll save money with the new SSAA Gold offer of $25,000 worth of firearms insurance for only an extra $25 on their membership fee. Sign up a non-member and help build an even bigger and stronger SSAA NSW. More members, more power to protect the future of SSAA shooting sports in NSW… SSAA members get more from their sport.
