Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 3 President's Message I hope our female members will forgive this indulgence but I'd like a few words with the blokes. On the other hand ladies you could read on and help me get my message out about Prostate Cancer and the importance of regular check-ups. For years I have had my PSA tested but recently my score shot up, so after more tests my Doctor confi rmed I had Prostate Cancer. That really knocked me and my family for a six because we had a big lack of knowledge about its effects and treatment. I also suffered a big dose of "that can't happen to me". Then I saw a surgeon who laid out all the treatment alternatives which included various radiation options and the removal of the Prostate. After the operation I went home three days later, a little sore but nothing a Panadol couldn't fi x. So why am I telling you all this? These days Prostate Cancer is not a death sentence…and The NSW Shooter is a great way to get the message out to thousands of male shooters. So guys please have a think about this wide spread male Cancer and get your PSA checked… It could save your life. Thanks ladies, now back to SSAA NSW stuff. This year in the President's column I would like to focus on exceptional volunteers, so if you know a member that fi ts the brief let me know through SSAA NSW Offi ce. Recently SSAA NSW held the annual Junior Target Shooting Camp at Silverdale Range. It was a huge success with over twenty juniors attending. On behalf of the Board I'd to thank all the volunteers and staff who gave up a beautiful summer weekend to give the kids a detailed and fun look at our various shooting sports. Unfortunately before the camp started we lost a key volunteer so SSAA NSW Senior VP Mark Godwin took on the extra work load. I have known Mark for years serving with him on the Sydney Branch Committee and SSAA NSW Board. Mark is a major contributor to the SSAA NSW success story. When a subcommittee Chairperson is needed he never hesitates to put his hand up. Mark works on Hunting, Finance, and Branch Grants and during my recent sick leave he also took over as acting State President…Now that's a volunteer! Thanks Mark. Later this year the Federal Government will be releasing the revised National Firearms Agreement (NFA). Our National President Geoff Jones has been attending the relevant meetings which are by invitation only and he is keeping the states informed of any developments. As there is a Federal Election this year I feel the Liberals will tread carefully with the NFA knowing our 170,000 plus members are ready to fi ght an aggressive campaign against any illogical, unjustifi ed or regressive changes. Other news, SSAA National have purchased a new building to house the Adelaide Head Offi ce and not before time as the old offi ce was outgrown years ago. Have you had a look at the SSAA Gold Membership $25 Firearms Insurance offer from SSAA Insurance? I am amazed at the slow take up by our members of this outstanding money saving fi rearms insurance offer. I personally saved $110 by taking my fi rearms off my home contents policy. What's more your fi rearms are covered at home, at the range, in the fi eld and overseas (for up to 28 days). Check out this genuine money saving offer for members, jump onto the SSAA website and see how to get more out of your membership. Well that's it for me, have a great 2016 and blokes… please make time and get your PSA checked… it could save your life. Seeya at the range, Paul McNabb President - SSAA (NSW) Inc. MORE MEN DIE WITH IT …THAN FROM IT.
