Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. 13 Come and Try Sporting Clays Seeking to boost attendances at their Sporting Clays shoots and promote the match SSAA NSW Griffi th Branch has planned a series of Come and Try Shoot days for 2017. Their Sporting Clays range is situated in bushland at the top of a hill where a great variety of simulated fi eld targets can be presented to shooters. The Come and Try Shoot was instigated by Shotgun Captain Jamie Cirillo who scheduled the fi rst of three events for January. Held in conjunction with a regular 75 target shoot there were plenty of local members available to provide advice, lend shotguns and importantly, the one to one supervision required for unlicensed shooters. To encourage local members to bring along new shooters, they only had to pay half nominations for the shoot with their guest shooting for free. In preparation for the Come and Try Shoot it was prominently listed in the 2017 Program with a promotion in the AREA NEWS before the day. Members were encouraged to seek out new shooters and were briefed on the requirements of using P650 forms for unlicensed shooters. "We also received plenty of support from the SSAA NSW offi ce with Irena Sanda providing a variety of information sheets on how to apply for a licence and a Minors Permit as well as SSAA publications for use by new shooters" President Warren Brown said. "As well, the Branch will be eligible to receive the SSAA NSW Try Shooting Day Subsidy to assist with promoting the day and the ammunition used" he added. With 9 new shooters attending to try Sporting Clays for the fi rst time, all had a great time and vowed to return. All took application forms and programs away while several joined during the afternoon. The Come and Try Shoot day concluded with a free bar-b-que and a presentation of prizes to the winners. Follow up Come and Try Shoot days are scheduled for August and September.
