The discipline currently involves the use of ten Service Rifle classes and five Service Pistol classes with more events emerging all the time. Combined Service Rifle is broken up into classes which comprise of both original issue and faithful reproductions of the following types of longarms: • Close Range Rifles (100m) • Medium Range Rifles (200-300m) • Long Range Rifles (500m+) • Breechloading Cartridge Rifles • Muzzleloading Rifles • Sniping Rifles which is divided into subclasses for Military Sniper Rifles dated before 1 January 1946 and dated after 2 January 1946 • Tactical Service Rifles that are fitted with telescopic sights • Accurised/Modified Rifles where there is modification to enhance accuracy beyond the original specifications • Accurised/Modified Rifles that have also been fitted with telescopic sights • Training Rifles where documents can be provided to support the rifle's eligibility. Shooters are required to shoot the following positions at 3 distances: • 5 rounds for each standing, sitting/squatting/ kneeling and prone at 100m, • 5 rounds each for sitting/squatting/kneeling and prone at 200m, and • 5 rounds prone at 300m. Combined Services is specifically designed for military firearm enthusiasts and allows anyone to get into the sport quite cheaply. There is no spotting allowed during the individual events which enables everyone to be on an equal footing having to rely on the rifle and their own ability.
